Album of the week: Adele “21″

She is only 22, but british singer Adele is already one of the best female singers of the last decade. She gave us “19″, her excellent debut album with the Grammy awarded “Chasing Pavements” and now she is back with the even better album “21″.

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins from London was a student at the BRIT music school in Croydon and graduated in 2006. She got a record deal with XL recordings when they heard some demos. With her fantastic debut album “19″, which came out in 2008, she didn´t only conquer Europe by storm, she also made it big in the US. She sold over 2 million records of her debut and is still a very charming down to earth girl.

She did record the new album in Miami and London and worked with producer legend Rick Rubin (Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Johnny Cash) and Paul Epworth (Plan B, Bloc Party). The 11 songs of the album are the best you can get from a female singer of our time. Her voice is unique, smooth and strong at the same time and she convinces as a songwriter, singing about breaking up, the feelings and situations you go through. The first single “Rolling In The Deep” is already a big hit, followed by the strong and up tempo song “Rumour Has It”. Going separate ways was never sung better about as in “Turning Tables”, a big wonderful ballad. The best song from the album for me is “Set Fire To The Rain”, which gives you the creeps all over. Other highlights are “He Won`t Go”, the soulful “Take It All” and “Someone Like You”. She even makes the Cure song “Lovesong” sounding like it`s her own. The album everyone is waiting for is finally here and you`ll love every second of it. It`s even better than her debut, stronger and better in songwriting and production. We love you Adele!

Adele is playing an exklusive gig tonight in London for the album release and starts her worldwide tour in March 2011.
